'태평가 (TaePyeongGa)' - 모임 별 (Byul.org) / 2026

태평가

경기 민요 ‘태평가’는 오랫동안 우리 곁에 머물러 있던 노래다.
파티의 DJ셋에서 여러 버전으로 흘려보내곤 했고, 
그때마다 이노래는 늘 새로운 즐거움으로 함께 하는 기분이었다.

곡의 가사는 얼핏 “놀며 살아가세”라는 단순한 권유처럼 들린다. 
그러나 그 이면에는 해학과 애수, 관능과 체념, 갈망과 관조가 교차한다. 
단어 ‘태평’은 ‘평화’를 뜻하기보다는, 삶의 무게와 속도를 잠시 비켜 서는 태도에 가깝다. 
아둥바둥 이어지는 인생이 한바탕의 봄꿈이라면, 
그 덧없음을 인정한 뒤에야 비로소 허락되는 잠깐의 느긋함 같은 것이랄까. 
체념이 아니라, 그 무게를 알면서도 웃으며 살아보겠다는 자조적 읊조림 같은 것이다.
그 애잔하며 능청스런 선율을 우리의 손으로 매만져보고 싶었다. 

이 곡을 처음 공개 연주한 것은 부천의 건물형 공단에 위치한 
미술가 정금형의 작업실에서 열린 작은 공연-파티에서였다. 
오래도록 마음 깊이 품고 있었던 음악이었기 때문인지, 
그 저녁의 공기와 빛, 시선, 웃음 소리들이 지금도 생생하다.

수많은 국악인을 비롯해 여러 트로트, 재즈계의 예술가들이 
이 곡을 각자의 언어로 만들고 불러왔지만, 
우리의 작업에는 특히 오아시스 뮤직 앙상블(1970), 김영임(1984), 김세레나(1987) 
그리고 Prelude(feat. 전영랑, 2014)의 해석이 깊은 울림과 영향을 주었다.
그분들께 각별한 존경과 감사를 드리는 마음이다.

The Gyeonggi folk song TaePyeongGa is a melody that has long lingered by our side. We’ve often let various versions of it drift through our DJ sets at parties, and each time, the song arrived with a fresh sense of delight.

At a glance, the lyrics seem like a simple invitation to "live and play." However, beneath the surface, humor and sorrow, sensuality and resignation, longing and contemplation intersect. The word TaePyeong (Peace/Tranquility) does not merely signify 'peace'; it is closer to an attitude of momentarily stepping aside from the weight and pace of life. If this frantic, persistent life is but a fleeting spring dream, it is the brief moment of leisure allowed only after acknowledging that transience. It is not resignation, but rather a self-deprecating murmur—a resolve to keep smiling while fully aware of that weight. We wanted to run our own hands over those plaintive yet sly melodies.
