This lesson breaks down a classic djembe accompaniment often associated with Kuku – though the original rhythm came from a different region and traditionally didn’t feature dunduns. You can hear that early version on Mamady Keita’s 'Wassolon' album.

Over time, this accompaniment has made its way into countless 4/4 rhythms. It’s a brilliant pattern for creating forward momentum, contrasting with more grounded parts in an ensemble.
