ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Paco de Lucía was a true creator. Born into the world of flamenco, the Algeciras native explored the countless facets of Andalusian culture before completely reinventing the genre. A champion of modernity, he first mastered traditional flamenco before developing his own unique style. His artistic journey took full shape in the early 1980s through collaborations with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin, and landmark albums such as the live Friday Night In San Francisco and the experimental The Guitar Trio.

In this live concert recorded in February 1981, Paco de Lucía performs at the Liège Guitar Festival – the Belgian city known for its artistic program and big names like Baden Powell and Marcel Dadi. He opens the set with alegrías and soleás before showcasing an impressive technical repertoire. Structured in two parts, the performance moves into a lively Colombian-inspired piece, rhythmically enhanced by the accompaniment of his brother, guitarist Ramón de Algeciras. The second half highlights their remarkable musical connection, confirmed by a stunning rumba – a hybrid form rooted in Caló song, whose swirling melody here rises as the pinnacle of the concert.
