If you've ever wanted to learn Duane Allman's iconic slide guitar solo from the live At Fillmore East version of Statesboro Blues, look no further. I've done my best to break it down in four bar sections, explaining the licks, equipment, tone and techniques used by the master himself. I'm sure there will be questions about my guitar setup. The guitar is a 100% stock early 2000's Gibson SG standard. I believe the pickups are 57 classics, but have never actually looked. The amp is a Fender tweed Deluxe that was rebuilt to 5F3 specs. It has a Weber Alnico speaker that was mic'ed with an old American Shure SM57 and recorded direct into Garageband with zero EQ or effects. I couldn't turn the amp up loud because I was getting too much bleed in my lavalier mic, so I added an EHX Soul Food pedal to hit the front end a little harder to simulate a cranked amp. To get closer to Duane's Fillmore tone, you would need a 50w Marshall bass head run through open back 4x12 cabinets with either JBL or Cerwin Vega speakers. But I wanted to use a small amp for this to prove that you can get in the ballpark with just about any amp. 90% of the tone is going to come from your fingers and your technique.

My camera ran out of memory card about 2/3 of the way into this vid, so I need to redo the last part. I will get that done ASAP. Hope you guys find this helpful. Let me know if you have questions or comments. Please like and subscribe!
