Tito Puente timbale solo on the kit Ti Mon Bo
🎵 Ti Mon Bo Timbale Solo Drum Kit Transcription — Tito Puente
채널: Conor Guilfoyle
I decided on a slight change for my latest transcription. I have taken on a Tito Puente timbale solo and put it on the kit. Tito (as many of you know) is known as the king of latin music. His image is portrayed as a bit of a clown, goofing about, swinging his sticks behind his neck and making faces, but don't be fooled this guy was heavy!
He attended Julliard, wrote the Mambo/Cha Cha book in the 50's USA and took the timbales into public consciousness, making it an instrument to be reckoned with.
His style was different from what came before in that he mixed traditional latin phrasing with the American drumset and creating so much of what we hear in latin today. Actually if you swing the 8th notes makes a great bebop solo!
The solo is from "Top Percussion" recorded in 1957, along with Mongo Santamaria on congas and Willie Bobo on bongos, hence the title Ti-Mon-Bo,though not let's forget Bobby Rodriguez on bass. This is a killer percussion album and a must for your library.
I have taken some liberties with the orchestration of timbale parts in that some his repeated phrases I place on different drums, but rhythmically I stay pretty true to the original.
A heads up to Jim Payne whose excellent book "Drumming with the mambo king" contains many accurate Tito timbale transcriptions including this one, which I used for reference.
