Check out my new guitar lesson on how to play 'Trap Queen' by Fetty Wap on guitar.
I transcribed the song as closely to the original as possible so there are some complicated chord changes and strumming patterns which might be difficult for beginner guitarists.
I chose this song for this week's request guitar tutorial because I have not yet discussed triads in an online guitar lesson. The introduction to the song has a cool part which we can play on the guitar using triad shapes on strings 1, 2 and 3. A triad is a chord in its purest form, with a Root, 3rd and 5th. I introduce a couple of triad shapes that should be learnt, and try to remember on which string the Root note (that note which names the chord) is found to enable you to move it around the neck and make different chords. I will definitely be covering this in a lot more detail in future lessons.
As I said, the strumming patterns are demanding as there is a lot of syncopation, so make sure you use ghost strokes in the strumming hand (keep it moving all the time!) and work on the chord changes to build up the speed gradually.
